    Koshu Yume Koji, located at the north exit of Kofu Station on the JR Chuo Main Line, is lined with old houses, storehouses and warehouses that have been relocated with waterways and stone pavements and incorporate old architectural styles, as well as shops selling traditional Yamanashi crafts such as wine, accessories and Japanese paper, restaurants serving local produce and a museum, offering the skills and flavours of Yamanashi, You can enjoy the skills, flavours and culture of Yamanashi.
    The building that houses Tamaya is a Kabuto-zukuri (helmet-shaped) building reassembled from old timber actually used in old private houses, with old beams lining the structure, giving it a stately appearance.
    In the Edo period, Koshu was a quiet domain directly under the Tokugawa Shogunate, where shogunate officials and bannermen lived, and in the fashionable little Edo culture of Kofu, there was a large bell hanging from the bell tower, which was used to announce the time to the people of the city by ringing the bell.
