Established by a Great Commander "Shingen Takeda"

Kai-Zenkoji Temple was established by the great comannder Shingen Takeda of Kai region (present Yamanashi and Nagano Prefecture) in order to protect the statue of the principal god and other treasures in Shinano-Zenkoji Temple from being burnt down by the battle.

In the Golden Hall, two huge dragons are painted on the ceiling purposely made hung to make dragons weep. These dragons, the biggest ones in Japan, are called weeping dragons, and if you clap your hands, the sound echoes and the dragons weep.

    You walk through a dark winding path and find the key to the heaven by touch right under the principal god. In Shinshu- Zenkoji Temple, you walk through the square shaped path, but in Kai-Zenkoji Temple, you walk through the path shaped in the letter “kokoro” meaning heart. In the total darkness, there is no point distinguishing young or old, rich or poor, gender, race or whatsoever. You can feel by yourself that God made all human beings equal.

The dazzling statue of principal god sometimes makes people feel like taking it away for his own, therefore, normally it is hidden at the back of the doors of the main hall, however, the doors open the statue becomes visible every seven years.

    If you climb the stairs up to the “Homotsukan” Treasure Museum and look back, there is a fine pine tree and Mt. Fuji on your back.
