Narusawa Ice Cave is located at the eastern entrance to the Aokigahara Sea of Trees. These two tunnel-shaped caves were formed more than 1150 years ago, in 864, during the eruption of Mount Nagao, a side volcano of Mount Fuji, when a scorching hot lava flow (Aokigahara Maruo) flowed down between old parasitic volcanoes.
The total length of these pit-shaped caves is 153 m and the height is 3.6 m. The tree-shaped lava group is said to be one of the largest in the world in terms of the number of spiracles (when there is water, such as a small pond or river, where lava flows, the water is suddenly heated by the lava and boils, expanding as steam, breaking through the lava and creating a chimney) The area is said to be one of the largest in the world.
Since being designated a natural monument by the Ministry of Education in 1929, it has been introduced to the world and has become a valuable geological entity.ADDRESS 8533 Narusawa-mura, Minamitsuru-gun, Yamanashi 401-0320 PHONE 0555-85-2301 E-MAIL None. ACCESS By train
