Shosenkyo Ropeway
Scenic spots and ParksKofu and suburbsView Images
The Shosenkyo Ropeway was opened on 1 November 1964 at an altitude of 1,058 m near the summit of Mount Rohanji (Mt Yasaburo), which is renowned for its panoramic views and treasure trove of power spots.
The name Yasaburo-dake comes from the fact that a long time ago, a master sake brewer called Yasaburo lived at Rohanji Temple as a temple man. He made celebratory sake for victorious battles and was very valued by the Takeda family, but he was a heavy drinker and made many mistakes, so the priest chided him and he vowed to stop drinking after one tonne of sake.
The panoramic view is unmistakable, but the monolithic summit is shaped like a Go stone cut in half and plunges down to the bottom of an invisible valley, so there is a fear that if you take even one step, you could slide down hundreds of metres into the valley floor.
However, despite the thrill of the climb, it is the best place for a casual visit to enjoy a panoramic view of Japan's highest peaks in Yamanashi: No. 1 Mt Fuji, No. 2 Kitadake and No. 3 Manodake (Aino-dake).
The Wago Gongen, which is a 350-year-old oak tree, and the Yakumo Shrine, which strengthens relationships, make this a place where there is no shortage of luck boosters.ADDRESS 441 Inokaricho, Kofu, Yamanashi 400-1217, Japan PHONE 055-287-2111 E-MAIL From the contact form.
