The Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Archaeology is located in the Kai Fudoki-no-oka and Sone Hillside Park and opened in November 1982, exhibiting a large number of artifacts discovered in Japan from the Palaeolithic period to the 19th century, divided into five zones according to period.
The park is dotted with many archaeological sites, including the Kai Choshizuka Kofun (Kai Choshizuka Tomb) and Marushizuka Kofun (Marushizuka Tomb), which are designated as national historic sites, and their excavated artifacts are also on display.
In addition, as an opportunity to become familiar with buried cultural properties and to deepen understanding of the importance of their protection, an 'Excavated Japanese Islands' exhibition is held at the initiative of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, focusing on the excavated items that have attracted attention in each year.
