The Nakamura Keith Haring Museum was opened in 2007 at the foot of the Yatsugatake Mountains, where the Jomon culture flourished, as the only museum in the world to display approximately 300 works by Keith Haring collected by founder Kazuo Nakamura since 1987.
Keith Haring established a singular visual communication and message to a chaotic society, and throughout his short 31-year life he devoted himself to workshops with children around the world, public art including murals, poster art and social projects. The exhibition space is dedicated to Keith Haring's ideas.
The exhibition space is structured around Keith Haring's ideas and way of life, and the 'light and shadows' of the times he traversed, with boldly curved roofs and exterior walls expressing waves and lightning, resonating with the energy of life that underlies Haring's work.
In spring 2015, the museum reopened under the theme of 'a museum beyond the museum', and the expanded 'Freedom Exhibition Hall' introduces international and domestic artists and attempts to bring Haring's image into multiple relief by placing Haring's works opposite them.ADDRESS 10249, Kobuchizawa-cho, Hokuto, Yamanashi 408-0044, Japan PHONE private E-MAIL From the contact form.
