Manriki Park (Manyo Forest)
Scenic spots and ParksIsawa /Katsunuma /YamanashiView Images
This 14-hectare urban park in Manriki, Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, was created by making use of pine trees and miscellaneous trees, and is one of the most scenic places for pine trees in the prefecture.
Many plants mentioned in the Manyoshu anthology, such as pine trees, plum trees, violets and higanbana (cluster amaryllis), grow wild in the park, so the park was opened in 1993 as Manriki Park 'Manyo Forest' with monuments to these plants scattered throughout the park.
The park is a recreational park where visitors can enjoy seasonal plants and Manyo poetry monuments along a 'spring path (approx. 1,200 m)', 'summer path (approx. 500 m)' and 'autumn path (approx. 500 m)', and come into contact with Manyo culture and taste nature.
There is also a 'Fureai Animal Square' in the centre of the park, where you can enter for free and meet about 20 kinds of cute animals, including capybaras, raccoons, maras, deer, flamingos, peacocks, chipmunks, rabbits, monkeys and goats.
There are also other playgrounds for parents and children to enjoy together, including a picnic area, a children's square, a roller-skating rink and a barbecue area.ADDRESS 1828 Manriki, Yamanashi, Yamanashi 405-0031, Japan PHONE 055-323-1560 E-MAIL None. ACCESS By train
